Basketball player Zach Randolph faces drug charges in California

Many people would argue that it is a volatile time in this country. While some groups are fighting to protect their rights, others claim that there is no violation of the formers' rights requiring protest. As a result, tensions are high. Unfortunately, an incident involving a group of people in a housing project in California -- deemed a "mob" by responding police officers -- has recently led to the arrest of NBA player Zach Randolph. He now faces drug charges.

According to reports, police claim they noticed a group of people beginning to gather at a housing project one night in August. When they arrived at the scene, they claim that the so-called mob began throwing objects at the officers and destroying police cars. As a result, officers called for backup.

Two arrests were made stemming from the incident. Randolph was charged with felony drug possession with intent to sell. Another man was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police report that no one was seriously injured during the incident.

Many issues regarding the gathering and subsequent arrests are unclear, including why police came to the scene in the first place -- a group of people gathering at a housing project is not in itself typically a significant cause of concern. Also unclear is how police discovered that Randolph had drugs in his possession. Because many people in California and across the country who are arrested and face drug charges worry that their rights may have been violated, they often ask a criminal defense attorney to help them formulate a plan to respond to such allegations.
