People often act in ways that are mysterious. As part of an investigation involving allegations of criminal behavior, police must work to determine a motivation for alleged acts. This motivation, or lack thereof, could be part of a criminal defense. A young man in California is now likely considering how to respond after several criminal charges were filed against him.
The incident that led to the 25-year-old man’s arrest happened just before 9 a.m. on a day in October. Police say that the man hid behind a tree before using a knife to attack a 14-year-old girl who was walking to school. She suffered a minimum of five stab wounds in the alleged attack.
Police reports claim that the man who was arrested did not know the young victim. Although they say he fled the scene, officers apprehended him with the help of witnesses who reportedly followed him from the scene. Officers have yet to ascertain a potential motive in the incident. He was Tasered as part of his arrest; although he has been charged with attempted murder, child abuse and assault with a deadly weapon, more charges are expected due to the events surrounding his actual arrest.
The California man faces serious consequences if convicted of the charges against him. In order to adequately respond to them, he may benefit from a criminal defense attorney who can help him navigate through the process. Because of the nature of the accusations against the man, it may be necessary to assess the man’s mental well-being as part of the preparation in making a decision in response to the charges.
