Criminal defense: Parents, son charged with murder in California

Television dramas would have viewers believe that there are families that are composed of several criminal masterminds. While these shows can be entertaining, they are not particularly reflective of reality. However, California police believe that a set of parents and their son murdered a family friend. The defendants in the case are now likely left planning their criminal defense.

The incident that led to the arrest happened on a day in early February. According to reports, a 19-year-old man and his 47-year-old father allegedly beat a 31-year-old man in a hotel. The pair then pushed the man onto the sidewalk using a wheelchair supplied by the teenager's 40-year-old mother.

Witnesses reportedly discovered the man on the sidewalk, tied to the wheelchair with his shoelaces. He was pronounced dead. Police say that a search of the defendant's house revealed evidence that indicated the deceased man owed the family $14,000 and that the family was involved in marijuana sales. Reports also claim that bloodied clothes were found in the younger defendant's vehicle in addition to drugs and weapons authorities claim he stashed at a hotel. The three defendants, who are being held without bail, recently pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Unfortunately, there are many details in the case that are unclear, including what initially led police to the California family now charged with the man's death. In all cases, sufficient evidence is needed to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Without this evidence, those facing criminal charges must be found not guilty. An experienced criminal defense attorney can help the family fully understand their legal options and take appropriate action.
