Because of how often people in California use a personal vehicle as a form of transportation, it is easy to become immune to the potential damage that a car accident can cause. Unfortunately, something as simple as drifting into oncoming traffic could ultimately have tragic consequences. In fact, a man is now charged with vehicular manslaughter after an accident reportedly left another man dead.

The incident that led to the man’s arrest happened one evening on a day in late February. According to reports, a 33-year-old driver of a pickup truck crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic. His vehicle allegedly sideswiped a second truck causing the latter to overturn.

The first truck is said to have continued on, striking a motorcycle head on. The 24-year-old motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident. The other two drivers involved are said to have suffered minor injuries. Though police claim they believe the first driver was under the influence, it is unclear what led them to this suspicion.

In addition to the DUI charge, the man is also facing a charge of gross vehicular manslaughter.  Unfortunately, he must make multiple decisions that could ultimately have a significant impact on the rest of his life. Most people in California facing such decisions feel unprepared to make them, unaware of all their options and the potential consequences of each. Fortunately, there are experienced professionals who can help those facing criminal charges have confidence in the course they choose whether they opt to fight the charges in court or accept a plea deal, if one is offered.
