Motor vehicles serve an important function in the society of the United States. While they are a necessity to many households, their use carries several hazards. A simple miscalculation, for example, could ultimately result in a serious accident. Unfortunately, a recent crash in California has resulted in allegations of vehicular manslaughter.

The accident happened on a day in early April. Police say that a sports utility vehicle veered off the roadway. As result, police say, the driver overcorrected, causing the SUV to flip multiple times. It ultimately landed on its wheels.

Two passengers in the vehicle, ages 32 and 35, were ejected. Police say they died as a result of the accident. The driver, whose identity was not released in the immediate aftermath of the crash, suffered major injuries and has been arrested, suspected of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

There are many details surrounding the accident that remain unclear, including whether the passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident and what led police to suspect that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. In addition to what could be a difficult recovery, the driver also must respond to the criminal charges police filed. Under the best of circumstances, people accused of vehicular manslaughter may be unsure how to respond; however, trying to make such decisions during a recovery period could be especially difficult. As a result, those accused of crimes in California often ask for assistance from an attorney with experience with such cases.
