When confronted with an authority figure, many people in California simply do not know how to respond. For some, it may be second nature to comply, but others could react in surprising ways due to anxiety, for example. Unfortunately, a woman is now facing accusations of attempted murder and is likely considering her criminal defense, following a recent encounter with a police officer.

The alleged incident happened on a day in late April. According to reports, an officer pulled over a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old woman; it is unclear what precipitated the initial stop. The officer claims that he instructed the woman to exit the vehicle, but she allegedly returned to it afterward. The officer asserts that she then attempted to flee the scene in the vehicle with two other adults and a child.

The officer claims that he clung to the side of the vehicle while she drove on the interstate. Though he says he was “actively fighting and struggling” with her, she did not stop, even when she allegedly struck another vehicle. The officer says that he was able to steer the vehicle into a concrete wall, breaking the front axle. The woman was eventually taken into custody and now faces multiple charges, including assault, child endangerment and driving under the influence.

The charges that the California woman is facing are serious and could have serious consequences if they lead to a conviction. Unfortunately, the criminal justice system can seem complicated for those with little experience with it. As a result, many people facing charges seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney.
