Every time people get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle, they accept that they could potentially be involved in a car accident. Unfortunately, an accident in California can happen so quickly that many drivers are unable to respond in time to attempt to prevent it. In fact, a recent crash has resulted in a fatality and accusations of vehicular manslaughter.
The incident happened just before midnight on a day in late April. According to reports, a 22-year-old man was driving west on a California road, behind another vehicle. Officials say that the driver attempted to pass the car, causing him to cross a double yellow line.
Unfortunately, his vehicle is said to have struck an oncoming pickup truck. The driver of that truck, a woman, was transported to the hospital where she passed away from her injuries; the deceased victim was initially reported as a male by police officers, creating confusion for surviving family members. The male driver suffered major injuries in the crash and was arrested upon his release from the hospital. Charges against him include gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence.
The lives of all of those involved in this car crash will be permanently altered at a result. The man now faces serious decisions that will likely have an impact on the rest of his life. Unfortunately, many people in California accused of vehicular manslaughter and other charges are often uncertain about their options and their potential outcomes. Fortunately, there are experienced criminal defense attorneys who can help guide them through the process.
