It seems as if it is becoming increasingly easier to become distracted while driving. Smartphones in addition to new and advanced technology in vehicles can often pull a driver’s attention away from the road. Unfortunately, an accident believed to have been caused by intoxication may be an issue of distraction. Regardless, a man in California is now accused of drunk driving following a recent crash.
The incident is said to have occurred on a day in late August. Police claim that a 27-year-old man failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, reports say, his vehicle collided with another vehicle.
The second vehicle is said to have had a pregnant woman as a passenger; she reportedly underwent an emergency cesarean section, allegedly due to complications related to injuries suffered in the collision. Both she and the baby are expected to recover. The driver of the vehicle in which she was a passenger, her husband, is said to be recovering at a different hospital. Police claim that the driver of the first vehicle was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash and driving on a suspended license. He was arrested and is being held on $100,000 bond.
Unfortunately, cases involving accusations of drunk driving can be relatively complex. In some cases, equipment used to determine blood alcohol content could malfunction as a result of human error, for example, resulting in a false positive. When a person already has a record — as this man is said to — law enforcement officials may be less likely to question results. As such, people in California facing such accusations may choose to seek guidance from an experienced professional willing to examine the evidence against them and challenge it if necessary.
