All drivers in California have likely experienced a moment when their vehicle accidentally drifts onto the shoulder of the road. While most drivers are able to recover without consequence, there can sometimes be serious ramifications. Unfortunately, a recent accident resulted in a fatality; the driver has since been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

The incident happened at approximately 7:30 a.m. on a day in May. Reports indicate that the 47-year-old victim was walking on the northbound shoulder of a road. Police say that a northbound sports utility vehicle driven by a 25-year-old woman approached the man from behind.

According to reports, the vehicle veered to the right, onto the shoulder and struck the man. The man is said to have died at the scene. Though police say that the driver of the SUV left the scene, she reportedly called them an hour later, identifying herself as the driver.

The California woman was arrested and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Despite the claims, it is unclear what her blood alcohol content was. As a result of the incident, she is now facing some serious accusations; how she chooses to respond to them will likely have a significant impact on the rest of her life. Unfortunately, without legal training or experience, she may feel unprepared to make these decisions on her own, potentially prompting her to seek advice from an attorney with experience with such cases. With guidance, she will likely feel more confident in her ability to make informed decisions.
